I am wondering if I am getting enough nutrition from the food I am eating as I have a very liquid output on one hand and pancaking when I ingest fibre in a meal or snack. On my last visit with my doctor he told me to take 1000 mg of vitamin B12 on a daily basis which I am doing. Meant to say 1000 mcg o B12. HI Navey, Eating a healthy diet not easy and we all have good and bads days. Liquid output will drain us of the good things we need so its finding the right foods to balance that out. do you see a dietitian if not may be worth doing so. also check out some of the advise under diet heading above. if you are maintaining or gaining weight that's a good start. ileostomy 31st August 1994 for Crohns Thanks John for the advice will reread the diet foods. I have put some weight on since my surgery eighteen months ago and am maintaining it thank goodness. Merry Christmas to you and yours. Merry Christmas to you Navey ileostomy 31st August 1994 for Crohns Unless you are having very overt deficiencies, there's no real way to know about your nutritional status unless you have a full blood and urine test. It's something I suggest everyone do at least once a year - especially after surgery. It will give you direction and you'll be able to find out what areas need to be tweaked. Even the B12, which is something that many people need to supplement with, may not be absorbed if you've had abdominal surgery, so check those levels. Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. Thanks Eric I did have blood work done last month by my gp and was told all was okay. I just wonder how much nutrients I am absorbing with a liquid output which seems to pass through me in about 3-4 hours. Thanks Eric I did have blood work done last month by my gp and was told all was okay. I just wonder how much nutrients I am absorbing with a liquid output which seems to pass through me in about 3-4 hours. As long as your levels check out, I wouldn't worry so much about what's coming out ;) But if you are concerned, perhaps get more blood work done sooner than you'd normally do it, just so you can keep track of what's going on (I keep a spreadsheet and track the ups and downs). Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. as always Eric sage advice, thanks so much. Hi Navey, I also have a liquid output- and then pancaking-- and trying to gain weight like you-- I HAVE A FRIEND!!! :-) with all of the above.. All my blood work every week is normal-- and twice a year another full work up-- and I cant gain the weight-- I ate so much this last few months- and it only worked the heck out of Nellie-- BUT!! WHat I do know is--We have to keep something in our stomach like having a few crackers for gas, and soaking up the needed fluids. I also go to infusions for dehydration.. see my blog on members-- I was so healthy one minute then the next? got hit bad.. My Dr. said that this may go away--?????????? Your new I am ONLY 3 years in so kinda new-- I am new-- Empting every 3-4 hours is great!! I was doing over 20 times a day--for just up to the last 4 months.. But then I do have my days :-( --------My colon is totally gone-- Maybe we can work together on this-- I as going to find a OSTOMATE dietiean/nutreionest (sp's) if I can find one-- Been to 2 of them, but all they show me is the scale-- They don't know what it like to e me.. So my search goes on---- Good luck, Navye-- By the way- IT takes a long time to heal inside after such a surgery--some longer than others.. Lets try not to get myself/or anyone, over reacted.. Time to me is to slow-but it adds up-- now I can look back--not to a long forward-- Time and smile... Best............ marcie....... 2014 - 3 strangulations of colon, Ulcerative colitis, removal of colon, illiostomcy named woooh Nellie.. Always use Sublingual B-12 that way you absorb all of it . B12 is absorbed by the ileum. The ileum in where the large and small intestines join. Crohns disease attacks the ileum . Surgery removes the ileum. Other problems attack other places in the gut. Etc. Etc. Damaged gut weakens immune system. I was diagonised with periumes -sp-anemia 40 years ago- This is a condition that I can not (liver) absord anything that contains B-12--So I give myself shots once per month. I can only absorb my B-12 through mussel. was just wondering if I needed more? I will talk with my Dr. about this- U see, my liver doesn't know what to do with any over dose/any form of B-12.. *********Odd thing is after many Dr.'s and special blood specilists.. the 15th Dr. asked me if I was Swedish- Told him my dad was born in Sweaden-which this dieaese is rather regular in/with us. Speaking of------------- I am due!!!! :[) 2014 - 3 strangulations of colon, Ulcerative colitis, removal of colon, illiostomcy named woooh Nellie.. Its a fact that people of different cultures are affected or prone to different ailments. ie any one of an Asian culture prone to diabetes, IDB seems to be more common in Caucasian back ground. ileostomy 31st August 1994 for Crohns Yes, all different countries develop sooner-- Like Northern European woman become a "woman" later than and Asian woman.. Now that we are mixed, it is difficult to finger an serious illness.. That's why I was stunned of his question to me.. I was like "WHAT the heck?? What a stupid question" I am 2 mix's in full--My mom from French Canada, Dad from Sweden. My son's have an added on-full German-- Lots of cancer on Toms side with his brothers tho- But his sisters not yet.. Well, he one sister left-she is 89-healthy- 7 kids in all-- 3 left and one brother has cancer. So, keeping a look out on them.. Just gave myself my B-12 shot.. Good for 4 weeks........ :-) If anyone has to give themselves a shot of this-It doesn't hurt- IT is Med's B-12 is thin.. Great !!!! A thicker portion that needs to be injected hurts more.. Only trouble is finding my mussel. so thin... Shoulder is better anyway-just can be rather clumsy... I am a pro at this anyway.. :-) 2014 - 3 strangulations of colon, Ulcerative colitis, removal of colon, illiostomcy named woooh Nellie.. John? You have mentioned many time a dietitonist.. Just what can they d for US? So far I have received nothing of info.. Just for a regular person.. no difference to me.. We r different right? 2014 - 3 strangulations of colon, Ulcerative colitis, removal of colon, illiostomcy named woooh Nellie.. The Dietition am looking forward to seeing, Wouldn,t call myself a bad eater but any one trained may spot mistakes I am making. some things that never bothered me before seem to now. no matter how long we have or are at something never say ye can,t learn some thing more. ileostomy 31st August 1994 for Crohns Yes, you two have to great care of each other.. Glad to see that she is looking out for you. Good luck on Friday-- I now have a wee blockage... hardly walk, but I will keep trying.. Walking that is......... Like I said, as of the Christmas week it will be a whole year of no long weeks of hospitals... And I plan on keeping it that way-- Stuborn Swedish gal? yes, stupid no-- But they both can collide on the stupid side.. :-( Got Dr. apt. Wednesday-- see if I can hang in there.. Better clear off the bed, could be a whopper tonight.. For now, I think it is my ribs sticking my side???? :-) Thanks for the advise,, Yes learning is the key to life.. 2014 - 3 strangulations of colon, Ulcerative colitis, removal of colon, illiostomcy named woooh Nellie.. Good Morning John Seems like we all either have something from the time we are small or we get something as we get older . Sounds like you and your wife take good care of each other that's important . I know I try to take care of my wife and I know she definitely takes good care of me . Proctectomy , Ileostomy , Ulcerative Colitis Hi Robert, a good partner in life is a blessing, now don,t think for one minute its all sunshine and roses we fight like cat and dog lol. and I keep saying all she has to do is say "John I was wrong" but still wouldn,t be without her.
