Hi there. I thought if any of you (us) had ever experienced panic about lost or missing supplies, I would share 2 recent experiences and what happened. Last week myself and my friend went to Cuba for a week vacation (needed!). The airline lost my baggage containing 90% of my bags and wafers and stuff. I was totally freaked out because stupidly I had only put 2 of each in my purse, and I started to bleed badly from my stoma due to stress. What a mess. Went through a lot of hotel towels, totally embarassing. I called the doctor at the nearest resort and she saved me by delivering some Cuban supplies (1 piece) which was lovely of her but because of the extreme humidity they didn't stick. I took a plastic bag, put my legs through the handle holds and taped the bag to me with electrical tape. Horrible but it got me through 3 days until my baggage was finally delivered to me. I guess what I'm trying to say that if you find yourself in an emergency situation, think about what you would do if you were shipwrecked on a desert island! I'll tell you later about 2nd situation. Be strong xo

I'm sorry to hear about that experience, but I'm glad a little MacGyver skills helped you out!

While we may take our supplies for granted, it's both sad and a marvel to see how ostomates in underdeveloped nations cope. Check out some of these makeshift appliances!  https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3459765/

Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate.

Thank you so much. It's so sad that people have to do that on a daily basis. I have always wondered why ostomy supplies cost so much - are they that expensive to manufacture? I have no coverage and pay on average $350 per month for my supplies. The Canadian government, if you apply, gives ostomy patients about $900 per year which is nice but not nearly enough. So I continue to wrack up my credit card bill. Happy Thanksgiving to all and God Bless.
